heavy

Suicide is a huge dark cloud that covers over remote native regions. I believe there are very real historic and spiritual reasons for this, mostly thanks to Euro-colonization of the North American continent and all of its ills. It's just a fact: the natives were given the raw end of the deal.

But the hopelessness lives on for generations, or so it seems.

I had no idea we would be faced with this level of despair. It's almost tempting to believe that living in the comfort of the fair mo' city (TX) forever would have been a good idea. Almost.

I trust the creator knew what he was doing when he sent us here. Lord, strengthen us. We will stand firm.

  1. I suppose we can find those dark clouds everywhere, because people are hurting everywhere.

I know the change of culture and location can make anyone feel down. Add on not having a job, or friends, or knowing if you did the right thing can add on to that.

Just know that these doors opened for a reason. And as time goes on, you will find your place there.

In the meantime, maybe a little Vitamin D will help boost your spirits through the winter. And we'll keep those prayers coming your way. Praying specifically for a close friend, or group of friends for your dear wife, and a close friend and job for you.

  2. they have the same problems in abilene... depression, suicidal tendencies, addiction, spiritual oppression... you name it. and it's rampant!

it's just that where you are there is nothing to cover it up with... like tons of churches and christian rhetoric.

peace brother, we're praying for you.

  3. Thanks guys. I need your support!

But there really is some crazy level of hopelessness among the first nations crowd. And not just in this town.

And I guess it doesn't help that I've borrowed about 5 or 6 DVDs from the library on the subject of native ills and suicide rates. I should probably watch something more, I don't know...disney?

  4. Yes, perhaps filling your mind with the statistics of the suicide rates isn't the best use of dvd check outs right now.

Are there many organizations that are there for the native groups, where you are? Maybe seeking those groups out and getting a better idea of the immediate culture of your area wil help in your interactions with them.

People are people everywhere, and in the end, everyone has a story to tell and wants someone to listen to it and not judge them for it. You totally got that in TX...you will get it there too. It can take time, but you are there for a reason.
